What to do?

Life is coming at me these days. Not that I feel like I'm not handling it but I wonder how and when it's going to catch up to me and take a bite out of my ass.

T's health has taken a turn for the worse and I'm starting to think of time with her in terms of "the last time..." , the last time we'll share a meal or go somewhere together even though it has only been medical appointments for the last while. Yesterday was to be my day with her but she asked me not to come and her husband came home from work to care for her. He gets 3 weeks of compassion leave. Three weeks. That's all I can say about that.

I started boot camp again yesterday. I was nervous because I felt like I had really lost the plot over Christmas and was feeling achy and out of shape. Surprisingly I was able to keep up just fine and although I feel pretty sore today it also feels familiar and good.

Because we are in such a rush to get ready for our move I decided to go on the advice of my moving company and rent plastic stackable crates to move with instead of trying to find boxes. I used a company called Say No To Boxes and these guys are fantastic! They have package rates based on the size of the home you are moving out of. I chose a one bedroom package because you get to keep the crates for a whole month. That means we can start taking crates over to the new house and emptying them in the next two weeks meaning there is so much less for the movers to deal with. I got 15 75 litre crates a wardrobe box and a huge coffin like container for lighter big things. The nice guy who delivered them also brought me packing paper a big roll of bubble wrap and labels for the crates and a brand new Sharpie. All of the crates are just stacked in the corner of the apartment until I use them and as I fill them they get stacked on a wheeled dolly that comes with the whole deal and soon we'll start moving all our shit from this pile to the new pile. The last time we moved I used rolls and rolls of packing tape and by the time it was all said and done my hands were raw from all of the layers of skin the tape had pulled off. I figure all the time saved by the movers will offset the cost of renting the crates. I hope I'm right.

All that being said am still trying to figure out what's going to happen with our wedding. That's where my obsession also lays and really it's all about figuring out how to do it without spending a lot of money. Right now I'm just doing research. It keeps me busy in my head.

Yes, there's stuff going on with work too. I'll let you know how that's going when the time is right.

Tomorrow I am off to The Sunshine Coast with our store manager for a bonus day and lunch with Lorna at her new place. I hope the sunsssssssssssshines. Ha! that happened by accident but I think I'll leave it.

Guess What?

Superman and I spent yesterday remembering and watching war movies and documentaries. We were also nursing our colds and just generally taking it easy. I made chicken stew and we split a bottle of wine at dinner. We really just relaxed all day, in fact SM didn't even get out of his jammies. I also managed to get to the very bottom of the laundry basket. The very, very bottom is mostly filled with his single socks and my very best underwear. I do manage to stay fairly caught up with my laundry since I have the stacking washer and dryer right in the hall now. I mean I really have no excuse do I? Still, for some reason I rarely make it to the very bottom of the basket. I must try to do better.

This morning I woke up feeling "chesty" as we like to call it. My cold didn't last too long but my chest is definitely congested. I took one look outside and just didn't know if I should go to the park and workout with my bootcamp buddies. The thought of rolling around on the cold wet ground seemed too much to bear but after talking to Lorna I decided to go anyway and just come home if I felt poorly. Turns out I didn't feel too bad after I started working out and it was much milder and dryer than I thought it would be. I felt a bit shaky at times but I really put in a pretty good effort and just felt great about doing it when I was all done.

I guess it was the best thing for me because I don't feel like I have a cold anymore and my chest feels better too.

I've been thinking about getting a kitty but I have to admit I just hate dealing with litter and don't really have the space for a litter box. If I could actually train the little feller to go on the toilet, now that would be awesome. Does anyone know anybody who ever managed to pull this off?

Are you going my way?

This weekend was a lot of fun. My bootcamp group and I went to Whistler Saturday and had a nice little getaway. We left early Saturday morning and after arriving at the condo and settling in we did the unthinkable, we worked out.

We did some weight work and then we headed odd down to the village. We decided to walk the few kilometers down to Whistler Village .
By the time we reached the village it had started to sprinkle a bit so we took refuge in an Irish pub called the Dubh Linn Gate for a little snack and a couple of drinks.
The trip back to the condo was uphill, naturally but we took an alternate route along the river, it was so beautiful with all the fall colours and just a little bit of rain. By the time we made it back to the condo we were ready for some fun. We grabbed some wine and hit the hot tub and then back to our comfy accommodations for some yummy food and lots more drinks.

That's salmon cakes from Vij's witha coconut chutney, a tomato and cucumber salad, a Goan coconut curry with chicken, a spicy veggie curry with snow peas and green beans and lamb popsicles with a dijon and wine marinade that we grilled and served with a creamy potato dish and some nice Indian breads. It was all so amazing, each of us brought a dish and all together it was a LOT of yummy food. And yes, there was a lot of wine consumed and there may have been naked hot tubbing but I can't really talk about that. We had too much fun!

The next morning was pretty subdued, after coffee and packing up we drove back to the village for an amazing hotel brunch. The drive home was a little more subdued but the views were so pretty. I took a lot of pictures from through the windshield. Here's one of my favourites.

All in all I am so grateful for these great women that I can count on for support and encouragement as I continue on this journey towards a more healthy life and a fit body.

Also, my ass muscles hurt.

What, what?

I'm watching Biggest Loser right now. I know!! I can't help myself. I am fascinated by the changing bodies but sometimes disgusted by the way the show is edited. I also don't think there is any safe and healthy way for someone to lose 10-14 pounds in one week, is there? The idea of working full time on my fitness and weight loss really interests me. I can see the results of 3 times a week and I wonder what full time exercise would be like.

There is a show shot locally here called X-Weighted, they once approached my business and asked us to supply them with spandex shorts and sports bras for their "before" pictures. That's right, put the fat girl in the spandex and tell her she looks disgusting. The trainer is really mean and the contestants always end up frustrated and crying. We chose not to participate.

We have also been approached by this show to help them cast women for their program, at that time I considered what it would be like to be on that show. Honestly, I think they would love to have me on that show. The actual thought of working out the way I have been and having people see me do it has changed my opinion of that. There is nothing pretty about the way I sweat and swear and huff and puff. It's something I can only feel comfortable doing with my girls. My boot camp buddies have seen it all and I've seen them do it too. That's why I am looking forward to going up to Whistler with my girls this weekend and drinking some wine, eating some yummy food and, oh yes, working out. sigh

I got a new book today. It's called Teardrops and Tiny Trailers by Douglas Keister. This book makes me so happy and further fuels my small travel trailer obsession. It even has a whole chapter on Canada's boler trailer. I found out that boler spells it's name with a small b on purpose. It has nothing to prove. Maybe one day I will start to spell my name with a small b. Not right now though, I still have so much to prove.
